How to Get the Best Cake Cutting Photos on Your Wedding Day

March 22, 2020

One of the best parts of the wedding reception is arguably enjoying the wedding cake. You’ve had an amazing time enjoying a cake tasting and everyone is excited to partake in such an iconic part of the evening. However, did you know that where you place your cake can make a big difference in how your photos turn out?

Here are Three Tips to Get the Best Cake Cutting Photos on Your Wedding Day

  1. Put the cake on its own round table. This is the best option for photographing the cake cutting, in my opinion. The table usually sits off to the side of the dance floor so that everyone can see it. It is easy for guests to watch, and you don’t have to turn your back to guests and us as the photographer (as might be the case if it was on a table against a wall).
  2. If a round table isn’t an option – consider pulling a table off a wall so that you’re able to be between the cake and the wall. Your guests can still see your faces as you cut the cake and we can get the photos from a variety of angles. You can also transfer the cake to your head table.
  3. Don’t open your mouth too wide for those first bite photos. It can be a little awkward and unflattering. 😉 Be sure to kiss after you’ve both enjoyed a few bites!

While the cake may seem like a small detail in the grand scheme of your day, the “cake cutting” photo is such a classic – you might as well make the most of it!
