2020 has been hard – twists and turns every few days. As we all search for silver linings, everyone has to do what feels best for them. Maddie and Matt are a silver lining for us! Matt and Maddie opted to have a micro wedding in Atherton on their original wedding date, and have a big vow renewal celebration next year at Menlo Circus Club. Their micro wedding took place on their family’s property – a home that has been in the family since the 1970’s – a home that has hosted many celebrations in the past – including part of Maddie’s parent’s wedding day! Knowing that the location of their wedding had so much history – and that Maddie’s grandparents were truly there in spirit, was incredibly special.
Maddie and Matt fell in love quickly. After their initial meeting at The Olympic Club, they discovered they had so many connections and similarities. They had both been college athletes on the east coast – they were from the same part of the bay area – and they both really valued their family. Their relationship progressed easily – they knew that they were meant to be.
Maddie wore a knee-length strapless dress for the wedding day. My favorite part was the bow on the back – a fun accent for her bridal look. The bow tied into her shoes as well – they couldn’t have been any cuter! She wore her hair down in loose waves, parted to the side, with one side pulled back in a pearl hair piece. She carried a lush bouquet filled with ranunculus, roses, butterfly ranunculus, eucalyptus, olive, and pierce (my new favorite). Matt wore a navy tux with a black bow tie and a simple boutonniere.
Matt and Maddie shared their first look in front of their ceremony floral arch. All of the buildup and anticipation – the highs and the lows of planning a wedding during a pandemic – it lead up to this moment. Their 20 closest family and friends gathered for the ceremony, performed by Maddie’s brother. He did an amazing job adding in hilarious stories and heartfelt memories. Matt’s sister sang during the processional and during the ceremony. She is incredibly talented! After exchanging traditional vows and their rings, Matt and Maddie made their own personal promisees to each other – reflecting on those first days that they met and what the future holds for them many years down the road. The tears were flowing and the tissue box was making its way from aisle to aisle as everyone was emotional. After the first kiss, Matt and Maddie celebrated with so much joy as they walked down their aisle together through rose petals. Hugs were exchanged. There was so much joy! It was incredibly emotional for all of us.
An extended farm table was set by the pool with a blue linen runner. Each place was set with a monogrammed napkin – reflecting the couple’s initials. During dinner, they used Maddie’s parent’s china. Almost everyone toasted the couple during the meal. And, even the guests that couldn’t be there chimed in! Their videographer had put together a video filled with short toasts from many of their friends – often raising fresca – to Matt and Maddie. It was so unexpected and such an amazing tribute to how many amazing friends they have that are counting down to celebrate next year.
Maddie and Matt, congratulations! What a remarkable day you two had. Even though it wasn’t what you had originally planned, it was so special – and quickly became a highlight of my year. My heart was filled with so much love just witnessing all of the pieces coming together for you both. Thank you for being so wonderful. We feel so grateful for you both! Cheers to you!
