It felt like so much planning when into this Lake Tahoe engagement session. Brainstorming and swapping location ideas. Drafting timelines and anticipating traffic and parking issues. Coordinating outfit choices. When the day arrived, almost all of our plans went out the window thanks to the heavy smoke surrounding Tahoe. The mountains had disappeared into the sky, but we were still determined to make the most of it. Although being spontaneous is hard for me, I would say this engagement session taught me a lesson. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow, follow the good light, and call an audible – and it can be incredible.
As we drove to meet Kate and Nick, I saw the beautiful field in their backyard and all was right in the world. “Who needs to get in the car when this is right here?!” We got to incorporate their sweet pup, Hank, into the photos. Hank is blind but he managed to find the camera and was quite a ham! Such a happy pup! Every outfit that Kate and Nick wore was flawless – I truly don’t know what part of this session was my favorite. And their joy is so contagious! Can you believe they said “we’re not photogenic…” when we arrived? Lies!
We still wanted to get some photos with water, so we headed to Fallen Leaf Lake and took a few on a family member’s dock as the sun dipped behind the mountain. At the very end of the session, we headed back to the water, this time at Lake Tahoe, and the couple decided to jump in – fully clothed – the perfect ending for a whirlwind of a weekend!
Kate and Nick met as seniors in high school at summer camp where they were both counselors (as a long time camper – this makes my heart so happy!). They both grew up in the same area but went to rival high schools. They endured long distance through part of their relationship while Kate went to nursing school in Texas and Nick was living in southern California. Thankfully that is behind them and they are planning their Carmel wedding for next year.
Kate and Nick, you are the sweetest and have hearts of gold. I can’t thank you enough for being so flexible the weekend of your engagement session and going above and beyond by helping us with our gear while we camped. You two are such wonderful people. Grateful for you both – and for Lindsay Lauren Events for introducing us!
