December 11, 2020
I really respect and admire these two. When planning a wedding, you’re filled with excitement and anticipation. So much of that excitement for these 2020 couples was dampened by the current pandemic. Tough decisions needed to be made. I can’t imagine the turmoil that many of these couples went through – wanting to get married – wanting all of their family and friends present – but also wanting to keep people safe. Kate and Avery worked through all of that (and more) together. They adjusted their plans and worked together as a team with so much grace and kindness. What was originally going to be a grand celebration at The Powel Crosley evolved into a Vinoy micro wedding with their immediately family and two friends.
Kate and Avery are gentle people. They are soft spoken and kind but have this confidence that is so appealing. I wish you all could meet them. I always feel at ease when I’m with them, like I’m part of the family.
Kate wore a beautiful fit and flare gown with lace cutout details. The low back lead to a row of buttons. Her hair cascaded down her back in loose curls. Avery had such a fun look! His plaid navy and forest green jacket fit his personality perfectly! He had monogramed cuffs with his initials for a fun touch.
Avery and Kate opted to save their first look for their anniversary celebration next year, but Kate did want to have a first look moment with her dad. Just as we were about to head out for the first look, I noticed rain drops falling from the sky. With a 20% chance of rain, I hadn’t even considered that this would be a possibility for the day. My heart sank for them. With all of the curve balls, why did this one have to be thrown into the mix?
However, I wasn’t surprised when I saw this resilient couple handle yet another speed bump, together. The ceremony began, rain coming down around us. I cried behind my camera as I watched these two finally have their moment – rain and all – after waiting so long. All of those conversations, walks, meals shared, dates, snuggles on the couch had lead to this moment. They exchanged rings (even more special, Kate’s ring is made of family diamonds from both sides of their family!) and became husband and wife!
After the ceremony, the newlyweds were joined by their family as they cut their cake and enjoyed a reception out on the veranda at the Vinoy.
Kate and Avery, I’m truly so impressed with how you two worked together and handled every situation that wasn’t “perfect” throughout your wedding. You two truly deserve so much. I know you both make each other incredibly happy – it is clear you adore one another. I am looking forward to celebrating next year with all of your friends and family! I know it will be perfect!
