Shortly after Cissy and Lewis asked us to be their photographer for their summer Seattle wedding we began planning their engagement session. Cissy thoughtfully asked if they could evolve their engagement session into their Seattle city hall elopement – as they wanted to have a civil ceremony on their 6th anniversary of meeting. We were on board! What made their elopement even more special? We were their two witnesses that signed their legal documents! Such an honor.
We met Cissy and Lewis (for the first time – it feels like I’ve already known them for ages!) at Washington Park. There was an excitement in the air that felt different than a typical engagement session – because it was! They were getting married today! Despite the fact that the forecast had looked ominous leading up to the day, the weather was perfect – we even got some sunshine!
Cissy was wearing a beautiful custom gown with tulle and delicate beading. Her hair was curled and she wore stunning dangle earrings. I had the privilege of delivering her bouquet – so delicate with garden roses, white tweedia, and grasses for an organic feel.
After our time at Washington Park, we headed to some iconic downtown Seattle locations – Union Station and Pioneer Square! I just want to give Cissy a huge shoutout for going above and beyond – scouting so many locations ahead of time, sending me numerous photos and creating her own timeline for the day! She was so helpful in making this day as stress-free as possible!
After the wedding photos in downtown Seattle it was time for the ceremony! It was an unusual day, as the judges were on a retreat, so they brought in one of the retired judges to perform the few ceremonies for this day. Most couples had been discouraged from getting married on this date due to the lack of judges, but of course, Cissy and Lewis knew that this was an important day for them and wanted this to be their anniversary! I’m so glad they made it happen! The judge was so warm and kind. You could tell that marrying couples was a joy in her life. She gave Cissy and Lewis options for which vows they wanted to exchange – making it as personal as possible for a Seattle city hall elopement.
On the rooftop of city hall, as the sun set and the wind blew, Cissy and Lewis exchanged their vows. Their eyes welled up with tears. They exchanged rings. And finalized the deal with a kiss. It was so special to be part of that moment!
Lewis and Cissy, thank you so much for including us! We loved finally meeting you both and having the opportunity to spend your wedding day with you. I was a special day that I will cherish fondly. We can’t wait to be a part of your wedding celebration at Lakewold Gardens next summer!
