Thomas and I packed our bags with excitement as we prepared for Waine and Joyce’s wedding at Grand Island Mansion! We were heading to California for more than a week and their wedding was the perfect way to kick off the trip! Ever since the very beginning, these two have been so kind and thoughtful. They are incredibly considerate and they have such gentle souls.
Our alarm clock went off early the morning of their wedding, but not as early as Joyce and Waine’s! When we arrived at their hotel at 6:15 they were already ready for the day! What I absolutely loved about the morning was that they were getting ready together. They spent the morning anticipating their day and celebrating with their whole family. We sent Waine off to hide as Joyce put on her wedding dress so they could still enjoy a first look across the street at the International World Peace Rose Garden.
Their ceremony was held at the Iglesia Ni Cristo in Sacramento. Throughout the ceremony, the choir serenaded Waine, Joyce and their guests. Joyce and Waine had so much support from friends and family! They celebrated and thanked many of their thoughtful supporters during the ceremony.
After they were pronounced husband and wife, we all drove to the beautiful and ornate Grand Island Mansion in Walnut Grove. The white building is breathtaking with the columns and topiaries. The grounds are covered with curved gates, fountains, and sculptures. What a location for a wedding reception! Inside the mansion, guests found their seat and headed to the main hall for lunch. Surrounded by windows, it was a sight to see!
Many family members and guests shared kind words (and ballads) as a toast to the couple. Toasts have to be one of my favorite parts of the day. They’re always entertaining and emotional. It is so special to hear from someone who has known the bride or groom for decades – or gain insight into their childhood from their parents. This wedding was no exception.
Joyce and Waine, thank you. From the bottom of our hearts, we feel so grateful for you both (and for Nash for passing our name along!). We loved having the opportunity to get to know you over the last year – including our brunch during that crazy rain storm!! You were always so considerate and gracious. We hope to see you again soon! Congratulations to you both!
