As wonderful as it is to celebrate a wedding day with a couple, it is arguably even better to get together for their anniversary. Wedding days can be such a whirlwind with so many moving pieces (and so many people) that we are often racing against a clock. I was so excited with Danielle reached out about anniversary photo because I knew it meant getting to see Danielle and Derek again – and actually catching up! We met for their anniversary session at Stonebridge Weddings (where they had tied the knot just a year earlier).
When Danielle arrived at the venue she gave me the biggest hug and explained that they were late because they had forgotten the cake. The cake?! She then hands me a Publix box and I look at her confused. “Did you stop by a Publix on your way and they whipped this up for you?” She replied and explained “Nope – we turned around and got it – it is actually our top layer from our wedding cake!” I laughed and was very impressed! Danielle’s mom had packed them a picnic – complete with champagne, their top layer of cake with fresh flowers, and even their serving utensils from their wedding day. We made our way over to the tree where they exchanged vows and set up their picnic.
Danielle and Derek claim that the cake was better than I impinged it would taste in my head – but I didn’t take them up on an offer to taste it (seems like that should be shared just for the ones celebrating 😉 ).
We spent the morning exploring the grounds of Stonebridge Weddings – and documenting this first year of marriage! It was a wonderful feeling being back on that property with them again – watching them laugh together and celebrate one year together!
Danielle and Derek, I’m so glad we did this! It was great seeing you both again and I love that you two haven’t changed a bit! Derek still knows how to make Danielle laugh – and that’s a beautiful thing! I hope you both have a fun date planned for the end of the month – maybe you’ll actually get to enjoy more champagne then! 😉 Cheers to many more years together!
